A lot of homeowners don't realize how much of a difference grading actually makes. An uneven yard isn't just an eyesore - it creates drainage problems, pooling water, and ground that's basically unusable for a family. That's the situation we were working with here in Novi.

We started by bringing in fill and grading just over 13,000 square feet of ground. The goal was simple: take what was essentially rough, unusable land and reshape it into something flat and functional. Our crew worked the entire area with a skid steer and box blade attachment to get the surface dialed in before anything else happened.

Once the grade was set, we moved into seeding. Getting seed down is only part of the equation though. After seeding, we covered the entire area with straw blankets. That step matters more than people think - it holds moisture in, protects the seed from washing away, and gives everything a better shot at germinating evenly. Skip it, and you're rolling the dice on patchy results.

What we ended up with is a clean, flat yard that this property didn't have before. The groundwork is done right, which means the grass has every reason to come in thick and even. No shortcuts on the prep side means fewer headaches down the road for the homeowner.
