A soggy backyard that turns into standing water after every rain isn't just a nuisance - it's a sign the ground isn't draining the way it should. Throwing seed down on a yard like that doesn't solve anything. The water still sits, the seed washes, and you're back to square one.

On this one, we started by regrading the yard to get the slope working in the right direction. That means water moves away from the house and off the lawn instead of pooling up. We brought in fresh topsoil to give the new grade a proper base, and then got everything seeded correctly.

The straw matting you're seeing across the entire yard isn't just for show. It holds the seed in place, protects the topsoil from washing during rain events, and keeps moisture in so germination can actually happen. It's a critical step that a lot of people skip - and it makes a real difference in how the lawn establishes.

This is what new construction seeding is really about. It's not just spreading seed and hoping for the best. It's making sure the foundation is right before anything goes in the ground. Grade, soil quality, seed, and protection all working together.

When a yard has drainage issues, you have to fix the cause first. Getting the regrading done right is what makes the seeding worth doing at all.
